Threading-CO2 Academy is the learning programme of the EU Horizon Europe project THREADING-CO2 (grant 101092257). It trains students and professionals in CO2 valorisation, carbon capture, and circular manufacturing. The first course on this platform is the CCS MOOC.

What is THREADING-CO2?
THREADING-CO2 is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action that converts CO2 waste streams into high-quality polyester textiles at industrial scale. Fashion, footwear, and household textiles drive water pollution, greenhouse-gas emissions, and landfill. Polyester is the dominant fibre, and virgin PET still comes mainly from fossil feedstocks.
The project scales a first-of-its-kind circular manufacturing route, running on renewable energy, to commercially viable PET for clothing, automotive, and sports products (TRL7). The intended outcome is about a 70% greenhouse-gas reduction compared with existing PET processes, plus a European value chain from feedstock to finished textiles. What is Threading-CO2 Academy?
Threading-CO2 Academy is the project’s peer-learning programme for skills in CO2 valorisation and recycling inside a circular manufacturing approach. Digiotouch hosts the on-demand MOOC platform. LUT University leads learning-programme design with academic, industrial, and regional partners.
The academy targets skill gaps in STEM for CO2 and CO streams, then co-develops modular materials—graphics, video, quizzes, and presentations—with optional VR tools. The wider programme also includes a 30 ECTS module, a summer or winter school, industrial visits, and further MOOCs with LUT University.

The academy is built for people who will design, operate, or govern CO2 valorisation in process industries—not only textile specialists.

Sustainable Carbon Capture & Storage Systems for Europe
This course explores how carbon management solutions can be implemented across industrial and energy systems. It introduces core processes involved in handling CO₂ and examines real-world applications across sectors. Learners gain insight into commercial viability, investment considerations, and market dynamics shaping deployment. The programme also highlights regulatory environments and global trends influencing adoption. A strong emphasis is placed on value creation, resource efficiency, and system-level thinking. Emerging digital tools and immersive technologies are presented as enablers of optimisation and safety. Through case studies and practical exercises, participants connect theory with implementation.
